Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Animal Feedingstuffs and Member of the General Advisory Committee on Science, (GACS), for the Food Standards Agency, (FSA). Member of the Advisory Committee on Toxic Substances for the Health and Safety Executive Board. Formally Chairman of the Pesticides Residues Committee for the Pesticides Safety Directorate and DEFRA (2000-2011).

Ian Brown’s particular interests are related to the significance of low dose toxicity within the food chain and how changes within the systems of food and feed production can affect the quality and safety of food available to the consumer. Initially working on pesticide toxicology, he has undertaken some special projects on organic food for the FSA and is presently a member of the GACS working group on science communication and engagement.
