Professor of Ecosystems Science; Leader, ECI Ecosystems Research Programme & Jackson Senior Research Fellow at Oriel College, Oxford

Yadvinder’s research interests focus on interactions between tropical ecosystems and the global atmosphere.

He has a particular focus on their role in global carbon, energy and water cycles, and in understanding how the ecology of natural ecosystems may be shifting in response to global atmospheric change, and how land use change in the tropics affects the regional and global ecosystem services provided by tropical vegetation. He also has an interest in exploring the practical challenges facing tropical forest protection as a tool for mitigating climate change. His research addresses fundamental questions about ecosystem function and dynamics, whilst at the same time providing outputs of direct relevance for conservation and adaptation to climate change.

Yadvinder is the Director of the Oxford Centre for Tropical Forests, which is a member of the Oxford Martin School.
