Frank Vollmer is a researcher at the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO). He holds a PhD in Development Studies and is affliated with the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) in 2018 to strengthen the Global Multidimensional Poverty Index team. Prior to joining OPHI Frank worked at the University of Edinburgh as a Research Associate in Agriculture and Rural Development. He also worked as a Research Fellow in effective development cooperation at the German Development Institute. Frank is an accredited Lecturer in development economics at the University Jaume I, Spain. His research interests are the measurement and determinants analysis of multidimensional poverty, and livelihood analyses, including ecosystem services for poverty alleviation assessments. His main geographical focus is on sub-Saharan Africa, particularly Mozambique. His research has been published in World Development, Global Environmental Change, Ecological Economics, Energy for Sustainable Development, World Development Perspectives, among others. In some of his most recent work he studied the Interlinkages Between Multidimensional Poverty and Electricity, published by the Rockefeller Foundation (link). Together with the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations, Frank was responsible for the design and computation of the Rural Multidimensional Poverty Index (R-MPI), launched in January 2022.
