Jamie's research interests share a concern with how environmental knowledge is produced, and how this knowledge comes to shape the world around us. He examines powerful understandings of nature and their consequences for human and nonhuman life across a range of spatial scales. His contributions have been based on research on three topics: i) the histories, cultures and politics of wildlife conservation; ii) the governance of the microbiome and human health; iii) the social dimensions of livestock production and meat consumption in the context of environmental change. Jamie leads a work package in the Oxford LEAP programme. He is the author of Wildlife After Nature: Conservation in the Anthropocene (Minnesota, 2015) and Probiotic Planet: Using Life to Manage Life (Minnesota, 2020).
