Tom specialises in the ethnographic and historical study of humanitarian relief and its impact on the lives of refugees. Currently his work is examining the life and work of Lord John Boyd Orr (1880-1971), first director of the Food and Agriculture Organization and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1949.
